  1. Hi Gary, the Quadcopter looks very interesting and fun. I’ve not played with one before but I can imagine it will provide many hours of fun for the whole family. How long can it be used when the batteries are fully charged? What is the difference between this Quadcopter and a rc helicopter?

    • Hi Yvonne. Thanks for your comment and questions.
The Syma X5c standard battery pack will give you about 8 mins of flying time. I always suggest buying additional batteries so that you can keep a few charged up and ready for a quick changeover. I bought a four pack with charger so that I can have more than half an hour of fun every time I go for a flight.
There are so many different types of rc quadcopters and rc helicopters. Check out my post which explains the difference here http://cool-for-kids.com/quadcopter-vs-helicopter-which-is-best-for-kids

  2. Oh my god! Just reading your experiences makes me wanna buy this thing. It seems you and your kids clearly had a lot of fun with this device!
I have a four-year-old also and he would be thrilled to play with this. Not only he, but also myself, haha 🙂
Small question. I read that the distance is 50m. But does this mean it can also go as high as 50m?

For under 50 bucks this is a cool toy that I, oops, I mean my kid 😉 could enjoy!

    Cheers,
    Jurgen

    • Hi Jurgen. I can honestly say that you will most definitely have loads of fun flying this with your son! He would probably be a little small to keep it under control like my four year old, but they still love watching it fly at that age! To answer your question, yes you would be able to get it to about 50m altitude if you fly it directly above your head.

Thanks very much for your comment.

  3. Hi,
Thanks for this review of the Syma X5C. After reading this, I regret my kids are grown up and that these machines weren’t around when they were small. Still we’re all big kids at heart, so I could buy one for myself. I find it really incredible that these quadcopters are so cheap and also they seem quite sturdy. In your comparison table, the Syma X5C seems to be more adapted to outdoor flight than some of the more expensive models.
I like the fact that you mention about respecting other peoples privacy, this is important.

    • Thanks for your comment Peter. Yes the Syma X5C is more adapted to outdoor flight and has a really good control range for the price. I do have concerns about peoples privacy when it comes to quadcopters with cameras though. This is why I feel it important to make people aware of this.

  4. I had to write my full names…seeing that Peter has already made a comment on this :)…Hi there, I am really glad I found this site as I have always wondered about a great toy to buy for my little boy. I am thinking of getting this quadcopter for him as a surprise. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Peter. Two peters in one day, that’s good going!!
You really won’t be disappointed with the Syma X5C. It is a real steal at that price and it has given me hours of valuable time spent with my kids. We all love it.
Thanks for your comment Peter. Enjoy!!

  5. They designed the quadcopter in a rush. Why do they use only a 600mAh battery, while a 2700mAh is also easy to find? Where do you find your additional Lipoly battery?

Btw, do you download the video/picture? or are they transmitted to a laptop?

  6. Hi Gary

I can see my husband really enjoying this quadcopter with our kids in a few years time! I think at this stage with a 2 year old and a 4 year old it would be a bit of a waste, they break everything they get their hands on… yes still!

However I can see my husband enjoying this all on his own! The only difference between men and boys is the size of their toys haha

    • Ha ha Lynne! But yes you are so right with that comment!!
I know what you mean with young kids. My four year old also seems to destroy everything he lays his hands on. Luckily, this quadcopter is rather sturdy and ours is still in one peace for the time being.
Thanks so much for your comment.
      Gary
